|6th Annial Richmond Sea Scout Skills Training (CA)|
WHAT: The goal is to train adults and youth in the basic skills and methods needed to train their own Sea Scout Ship and Regatta crews. Skills taught will be similar to those found at most Regattas and used aboard most ships. Adult training will be separate from youth training. The focus will be on teaching practical skills such as scuttlebutt, compass and relative bearing, marlinspike, knots, heaving line, etc., with the idea that when more crews and adults have a higher level of practical skill, all of Sea Scouting benefits! We also get a PRIVATE TOUR of the WWII Navy Red Oak Victory Ship AND IF THERE IS ENOUGH PARTICIPATION WE WILL HAVE A DANCE.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: EVERYONE! Whether you are a newer crew that wants to know how it’s done (and why it’s useful), or you are just a little rusty and want to improve your skills before the regatta and cruising season starts then this event is for you! If you already have the skills and want to help other crews learn we need your help!
WHERE : Richmond Sea Scout Base, Port of Richmond (end of Canal Blvd), come rain or shine! This is planned as an all day event with a fun activity Saturday evening. Ships may cruise in Friday night 3/14/14 after 1800 and leave Sunday morning 3/16/14. Units are welcome to drive in for the Saturday event only (no overnight camping is allowed, but some ships may have bunk space for overnighters); plenty of parking is available. Crews will muster on the pier at 0800 for colors. Training begins at 0830 and runs to 1700, with a 1 hour lunch break from 1200 to 1300.
WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON A PLAN FOR FEEDING EVERYONE A DINNER MEAL SATURDAY ON BOARD THE RED OAK VICTORY SHIP.
