FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Well, what can be said about America’s
Cup Race 4? It was scheduled to be run last Thursday, February 20th. It has
been postponed 5 times now due
to uncooperative winds and weather. A general aura of frustration hangs over
Auckland. The voicing of this frustration ranges from attempts at humor to
accusations of a lack of impartiality on the part of the race director. The
American Sea Scouts here in Auckland watch and wait (and wait…), concerned
that we will have to go home before it’s over. Let there be wind! Let
it blow with consistent direction! Let there be a race! We wait…
Meanwhile, we souvenir shop, mingle with the crowd at Viaduct Harbor, and try to get over the nasty cold bug that has plagued 3 out of 4 of us (Cynthia has somehow managed to dodge it.) On a positive note, the food here is very good and the people, both locals and visitors, are really nice. The New Zealander’s fabled reputation for friendliness is generally well deserved.

Sea
Scouting is a co-educational program offered to young adults between the ages
of 14 and 21. Sea Scouting is organized to promote better citizenship and to improve
members' boating skills and knowledge through instruction and practice in water
safety, boating skills, outdoor, social, and service experiences, and knowledge
of our maritime heritage. For information on the Sea Scout unit nearest you, contact
