The US Coast Guard Cutter Barque Eagle Summer cruise

Do you want the adventure of a lifetime? Apply to sail aboard the tall ship US Coast Guard Cutter Eagle! The Eagle is a three-masted barque used to train Coast Guard cadets and officer candidates yearly during the spring and summer months. The Eagle was built in Germany in 1936 and was taken as a war reparation by the U.S. after World War II. Since then, the Eagle has been home ported in New London, Connecticut, the location of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy

This program is administered through the Coast Guard Auxiliary as part of their youth program. Based on available berthing space, billets are obtained from the Eagle leadership for select Sea Scouts to join as crew aboard the Eagle during the final portion of the summer cadet cruises. This opportunity is available to all Sea Scouts who desire fun, adventure, and a summer cruise to remember – you don’t want to miss this chance. Sailing on Eagle counts toward your Long Cruise award as well! Using the application linked below, Sea Scouts must apply by March 31st each year to be considered for this exciting and rewarding program.

The US Coast Guard Academy Introductory Mission (AIM)

Sea Scouts may now apply to the AIM Program by first, completing the AIM application on the Academy website, then submitting this application to AuxScoutAIM@gmail.com no later than April 1, 2026. The AIM Program has prioritized up to 10 slots for Sea Scouts which requires an earlier application deadline than general applicants. Sea Scouts may apply for financial assistance directly from the US Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) since this is a US Coast Guard sponsored program.

Sea Scouts will need to certify on their Sea Scout AIM Application to ensure that we are only submitting candidates that meet USCGA’s minimum requirements. These were provided by USCGA Admissions as part of our agreement to nominate Sea Scouts to participate:

  • Entering 12th grade year of high or secondary school,
  • Maintains no less than a 3.4 unweighted GPA adjusted to a 4.0 scale,
  • Successfully completed instruction in algebra by the end of junior year and will complete a lab course in either chemistry or physics prior to senior year of high school,
  • No less than 60” or no greater than 80” in height, and
