Sea Scouts BSA

Adult training for Sea Scouts just got an upgrade.

National has added an item called Scoutly, which lists requirements and ideas electronically to assist all Scouting America adults. The newly revised Sea Scout Manual is listed there.

In addition, an adult training seminar for Sea Scouts will be listed. Sea Scout Adult Basic Training is now updated, which as the SSABT overview says, is the first step in training all Sea Scout advisors. It is intended primarily to enhance individual knowledge of and connectivity with the strategic plan, program and resources, while emphasizing personal skills necessary for the development of youth in the Sea Scout program.

Changes include the removal of Powderhorn, SEAL, references to BSA, the Quartermaster Cruise as a requirement, the Marksmanship Award and territory commodores. Adults are now referred to as advisors instead of leaders, as we are training youth to be the leaders. As the Scouting America saying goes: “Train them and then trust them to lead.”

Now, people who want to know about Sea Scouts and do not have a ship in their immediate area can look up ideas as well as training. You can find the updated syllabus for SSABT on the Adult Training page.
