Saturday, 12 September, marked the 44th Anchorage Cup Offshore distance race in Lake Michigan, which ran from Grand Haven to Holland, Michigan on board the vessel Encore. Every crew position had a Main person and a Backup so that in case of injury, motion sickness, or simply becoming tired, another skilled sailor could fulfill that role. The Encore is a 1983 S2 10.3M (34′ LOA), and is well-known in local racing / sailing history
The crew was composed of 6 youth and 3 adults. Seven of our crew were Eagle Scouts. Our main helmsman was Boden A. from Ship 9316. The Sea Scouts finished in 3 hour 32 minutes and 4 seconds and was ahead of a FAST GP 26 sportboat that was 6 minutes and 13 seconds behind us, which “gave us” 11 seconds per mile, or 184 seconds based on its rating of 125 sec/mi.
The Encore achieved the following:
- Corrected time of 2 hours 52 minutes and 56 seconds (the only JAM boat under 3 hours).
- First in section JAM-1 and first overall of 8 JAM boars
- The large Anchorage Marina & Yacht Club perpetual trophy will be engraved:
