Answers to Frequent Questions in the Roundtable Registration
When will we receive contact information for the new National Commodore and National Officers?
Attached is an organizational Contact list for the National Executive Committee for Sea Scouting.
How many registered Sea Scouts are there in the US?
As of today, we have 336 Ships; 3568 Scouts and 3,219 Leaders registered in Sea Scouting. These numbers represent an increase over the same time last year in all cases.
What is the status of the Sea Scout Manual update?
We are happy to report that the National Council is ready to support the updating of the Sea Scout Manual. The National Sea Scout Committee through its Material & Literature Task Force is within 2 months of completing this task and sending it to National for final editing. We expect the manual to be available before the end of this scouting year.
What happened to SEAL ?
SEAL was eliminated by the National Council as were other older youth specific programs due to liability and safety concerns as well as a desire to focus on core programs during restructuring the organization. Some of the” nice to have” programs are just not possible under the current membership and economic realities. Ther are currently no plans to resurrect the program.
Can minimum recharter youth numbers be waived?
This is one of several instances where a better understanding of the responsibilities of local councils is needed. Councils are chartered by National and charged with handling registration questions locally. The National Committee does not order councils to administer such items but certainly tries to encourage solutions that are administered fairly and for the good of scouting. We have set up a Resource Support Task force consisting of longtime Scouters who served in the previous regional organizations and have contacts which allow them to interface with councils to encourage growth and advise on solving problems effecting Sea Scouting. It is sort of a diplomatic corps between Sea Scouting and Councils.
Will Territory leadership and programming be reinstated?
It is the National Council’s intent that programing policy be set at the National Committee level and that all events and program opportunities be carried out at the local council level. No CST events are allowed. We have merged the adult leadership responsibilities into the National Committee and the youth leadership responsibilities into the National Quarterdeck. Other older youth programs are following suit.
